One way to avoid special-casing this one case in software is to have it pre-filled with the valid value "prefer not to say". This is sneaky UX because, compared to "Please choose one" (which invites the thought "what if I don't want to?"), it invites the thought "Hey, I'm not that opinionated! Don't put words in my mouth! I'll change this..." | |
