But if there are no cars on the road, it will turn red earlier, and the next road will therefore have to turn green before the timer runs down. Then a road can skip the queue and get green earlier to let emergency vehicles and busses through quicker. | |

For example, if sensors detected an ambulance approaching, the lights will change to minimize the ambulance's waiting time. | |
