I'm wondering what's the ideal workflow you've found working for your team and how you guys do it.

Most of the companies I work with have the design team under product (e.g., designers report to the Head of Product). Most of them did not understand the design process well and were often dictating how designers should work. This was the problem I saw:

  • Product just want the designer to work in Figma and hand off visuals to development. There are usually no socializing about product vision/goal/direction, and designers do not have the opportunity to perform research->define->design->test
  • Product creates Jira user story ticket and expects the designer to come up with deliverables
  • Product treating feedback as an instruction, like a one-way workflow only. It is expected that the designer will simply make the necessary changes.
