My project uses some third-party licenses that require a copyright notice. What could be the best way to show this in an app?

  • Hi there, this is a little broad as it stands. Can you explain what “requires a copyright notice” means? What specific problem are you trying to solve? – dennislees Jan 10 '18 at 19:42
  • Hi! thanks for the answer. Some third-party solutions we use, require a copyright notice. For example: "You must credit the author". An example of web page that show the third-party licenses, that I found is openwebrtc.org/third-party-licenses – Aline Jan 10 '18 at 19:54
  • Do you have a suitable screen or menu section from which to link to a screen like the one you shared? My expectation would be to see a link in a menu called "About Company X", on that screen is short company bio, and also some copy similar to the one you shared. "Company X Appname would not be possible with the following licenses..." – dennislees Jan 10 '18 at 20:05
  • We don't have an "About Company X" menu, but we have a configurations menu. Do you think it would be ok to put this page in the configurations? or maybe it would be confusing, since it is not a configuration? – Aline Jan 11 '18 at 10:56
  • That's be a strange place to have it. Do you have a privacy policy? or any other such documents? If not, and if you really need to show these licences, then the tidiest way to do this might be to add a new menu item and call it either 'Legal', so that it can be home to similar stuff in future, or just call it "Licenses" and list your licenses. – dennislees Jan 11 '18 at 13:10
