I do Technical Support for two businesses; a small ISP and a large University. On the side I run a Minecraft server, fiddle in various Linux distros, and program (mostly Ruby).

I still think that the language choice should be on the left, with the content item, but you're right this means that the button should be named Add. How about this new edit...

comment Where to place voting buttons on posts?
Reddit usually skips a picture completely, and puts the username just to the right of the voting buttons. Some subreddits (example: /r/dota2 include custom profile images to the right of the voting buttons.

Other than giving prime spot to the voting score and arrows, I am making no recommendation about the location of the profile picture; 'right edge' is just an off-the-cuff position I've seen other sites use. I think that is something that can be chosen based on aesthetic rather than UX, since it is of lower importance. SE puts it on the lower right; many comment sites put it on the upper right. I just don't think it should compete with the voting and score (which are of prime importance), so I believe it should be on the right, not the left.

Which is more important to your users... the face of the poster, or the rating of the post? I will guarantee that it's the rating, so it should get prime position (left edge), and the profile picture should be sent to a less primary spot such as the right edge.

One last question sree: must every 'additional' winner be assigned to Gold/Silver/Bronze, or will some or even all of them not be given prices if the admin does not choose to? So could there be people who are given 'none of the above'?

comment How to make selecting a timezone more user-friendly?
Your question is very wide ranging; you would get better answers if you could narrow the focus some. For example, the part about 'US/Pacific' vs 'America/Los_Angelas' is a rather different question than 'Is there a way to shorten the list to something friendlier'.

Am I accurately understanding that the administrator is assigning additional Gold, Silver, and Bronze winners above and beyond the automatically assigned ones? And there could be multiple additional Gold, Silver, and Bronze winners, so the item of locking out more than one winner in a category would be incorrect?

@sree could you try explaining that again? I do apologize, I do not understand what you are trying to say in this comment, though I get the impression that I have misunderstood your question in some way.
