I do Technical Support for two businesses; a small ISP and a large University. On the side I run a Minecraft server, fiddle in various Linux distros, and program (mostly Ruby).

Added additional note on banner blindness.

I believe a plain blinking animation would actually drive attention away from the control, due to advertising blindness. useit.com/alertbox/banner-blindness.html

Well, that's his entire question @BartGijssens. How to make it look hoverable.

Fixed title to be more specific to the actual question asked.

I don't understand what you mean by being unable to get back to Basecamp; can you elaborate? While my examples are heavy on subdomains that's just because those are the ones that came to mind; they are not really the focus of the question. Perhaps I should update the question...

As I mentioned, I'm only discussing dictionary sites, rather than 'empty vessel' names. I agree with you, but that's off-topic for this question.

comment Drawing/Paint UI's for children
You are asking too many questions in a single question. "Good examples of paint programs for children" is one, and off-topic (shopping question). "How to handle vectors and bitmap drawings for children" is two. "Advice on how to create a paint program for children" is a third. "Literature about designing interfaces for children" is a fourth. Can you narrow down your question?

'flexible' is not necessarily 'usable'. Are you absolutely sure users need the ability to add arbitrary columns? Can you handle the vast majority of use cases with two or three choices of view instead, or with a couple fixed columns and one 'user choice' column?

Votes, just like here, would be anonymous. I certainly am concerned about potential drama, but reality often confounds expectations; that is why I'm hoping someone has seen this in practice.
