comment How could you prevent users from leaving their original copy in the photocopier?
It's not entirely necessary to detect that there's a sheet of paper on the glass. After the document has been scanned, assume the original is still there until the cover is lifted. I'm not likely to scan my document, then lift the cover, and still leave the original on the glass.

comment Why is the “Record” icon always round and usually red?
To state something that may be obvious, the danger of the record button (because it erases existing information) is less relevant today, when most devices record to a newly created digital file. The convention was established before digital recorders were common.

comment Traffic light, no more shapes?
I don't think I've ever seen traffic lights with those shapes (I'm in California). When and where did these exist?

comment 'My Account' or 'Your Account'?
Personally, I dislike both "My ..." and "Your ...", partly because they're difficult to talk about. "Now click on My Account." "Click on your account?" "No, not my account, My Account!" Note that MS Windows changed XP's "My Computer" to just "Computer".

comment Should I combine these 2 mutually exclusive actions?
It seems to me that unmarking a previously verified e-mail address might be useful, though it probably shouldn't be too easy to do.

comment How to display date and time
If you choose a single format, you'll inevitably anger users who don't like it. If you let users choose a format, you'll inevitably anger users who don't want to be bothered. Is there a good solution (other than training everyone in the world to use ISO 8601; I'm working on that)?

mm/dd/yyyy is not "imperial standard". It tends to be used in the US, whereas dd/mm/yyyy tends to be used in the UK (which creates an ambiguity 132 days of the year). If you use either format, clearly indicate on the page which one you're using.

comment Can I optimize this command-line interface?
@BenBrocka: Quite right, and I just fixed it. (I mistakenly thought you were distinguishing between arguments to the command and arguments to options.)

comment Can I optimize this command-line interface?
@BenBrocka: Perhaps. I don't know what the formal definitions of the words "argument" and "parameter" are in this particular context.
