Agreed. But still, if product wants mobile they have to specifically ask for it. After they ask for it, UX needs to take it into account, then design, and in the end implementation. I still think it's a high level decision that has to be made regarding this.

Depends. If I am shopping for computer electronics and the menu contains baby product categories as well, then yes, maybe. Anything that is not useful immediately for me could just as well stay at the top of the page.

+1 for pointing out that I could just use the email and password for both registration and login. I do have to send a confirmation email, and I will add password recovery later!
