comment Pixel aspect ratio for multiple touch devices- Mobile Web
Maybe the hardware used by samsung in the developer preview for metro during BUILD is having the same pixel density as the iPhone but I don't have a definitive information about it. If anyone does it would be nice to know :)

Thanks for the reply @DA01. It helped me understand a lot of things. Unfortunately, I don't think I m at the luxury of not caring for Android and Windows devices for this web application:) I found your suggestion about the secondary set of icons for iPhone 4 very helpful. Do you know of a similar direction for Android or Windows devices? Like the article I have posted below, maybe the answer is to have another set of icons with a certain resolution, right? Any idea where I can get this calculation of twice the resolution or 1.5 times etc for Android or other devices? Thanks again.

This is good information @DigiKev. I had gone through these video's and presentations from BUILD and I have to agree with DA01 that this only windows metro specific. You might want to read this article to get a sense of how things can be very different when it comes to understanding of pixels for different devices. alistapart.com/articles/a-pixel-identity-crisis

Okay, seems like I have the reputation points needed. The message on the top gave me a impression that for some reason I need some extra points to get access to chat room. Wish that message on top disappeared after some time. The page I m referring to is the chat page. Thanks

The chat needs something named "20 reputation". Anyways it's fine, I realize the problem. Sorry for the mistake.

Thanks for closing the question. My original question was for diagonal scrolling but I didn't realize (dnbrv) edited the question and took into a more abstract level by changing diagonal to horizontal. Maybe there should be a way in this forum where people don't edit questions without permission, rather than closing questions in such a manner.

comment Tab controlled website
Just to give you a hint into the user data, age group of 18-25 don't like to use mouse. Mouse is technological device which will not last more than 10-15 years, so keys like tab will take prominence. Windows 8 developer version does a good job and proves the direction I mentioned. Thanks

Thanks for your time Jimmy. I probably should have mentioned that I already have spoken to my users and they do feel they want to use tab to control the flow. My user is not a IT admin/power user, however they are medical billing consultant and deal with 1000 of forms and 100's of tables a day. For them time is a very big factor when it comes to success of user experience. I disagree with most of your comment but it's not your fault as I didn't explain the context very well. I didn't mean to ask other designers to help me design, I believe in learning from their experience and improving.:)

3. The user gets pop up without having a page refresh, this pop might be of different nature a list view with various options or a confirmation message for certain action. If you have examples of such interactions I would appreciate if you could share. Thanks a lot.

Hi Rahul, Do you know of some examples or websites having some javascript and Ajax techniques successfully implemented and still accessible? I think I am trying to find some examples, the problem is I am getting conflicting opinions based on several readings on web about javascript usage and it's final reading by the screen readers. Some key interactions which bother me in my design 1. On button click I want the page not to refresh and convert couple of text to text input box 2. Error validation, I don't want the page to refresh and I want to do some basic error checking before submitting form

Thanks @drupality. Basically the UI on the printer I am working on is having a home screen and then based on the selection on home screen one goes to specific functions. So navigate has multiple meaning here, scrolling through a list view, going from one screen to another screen (screen transition) etc. Your second question about the placment of keypad, it's on the hardware. I don't know if you have used or seen Nokia 1100. Basically it's a similar interaction wherein you have a hard keyboard and the input is on the screen, therefore it's not a touch screen. Thanks

There are 1000's of interactions out on web which make no sense. And I used the word interaction not interaction design. To learn about a certain interaction and look into it's usage of interaction is very different from learning interaction design. I was asking about former.

Thanks Henrik. Please check my comment above, my concern is not towards the actual interaction but understanding the rationale behind this functionality. Thanks again

Thanks a lot for sharing this. I guess my question is more towards exploring if this interaction is even useful for end users. In other words why would a user want to edit multiple rows at the same time. I just wanted to see what rationale or context of designs other people had kept in mind while proposing multiple edits at the same time. I m actually inclined towards thinking that multiple edits at the same time can lead to more errors as you are keeping multiple values editable at the same time and also expect the users to remember a lot of values, which is not always the case. Thanks again

Rahul for a organization which is serving globally does it makes more sense to be WCAG compliant than just 508? Since WCAG and 508 are very redundant in content( in-fact WCAG is more extensive and elaborate). So by being WCAG compliant a website could not only be 508 compliant but also cater to other countries. In US also I am not sure if there is any organization which is actually imposing 508 compliance at present it seemed like a self evaluative effort on the part of web developer. I may be wrong, but that's my initial assessment based on things I have read online.

comment Is the alt attribute on navigation sufficient for section 508 compliance?
hmm, well I think the scenario which made me think it might be accessibility issue was as follows. A screen reader reading just login method as a page header is not descriptive enough for the users using a screen reader to know what to expect when they click on that page. To be honest I m new to the accessibility scene and I was a bit concerned, maybe it is a copyright issue. Thanks
