Usability should always be top priority

comment How to say that an online demo is interactive in 2-3 words?
Most users do not read. Just make sure that the demo's interactivity is easy to discover.

comment What effect does requiring a plugin have on conversion rate in a web app?
I believe that any developer smart enough to do a usability study will just not use a plugin. We can all agree that using plugins can lead to lost users, so why do it. We should be able to use html + JavaScript in most cases.

comment 'Scrolling divs' in mobile land. Yea or nay?
How big is the div, compared to the device? I can see users getting frustrated, especially if the div is large.

comment Should we restrict signup for a service to Facebook accounts only?
The site is probably not live yet. "Our target audience is subject specific (architecture, language learning, etc.) so we can't predict our customer audience very well yet."

comment Pros/Cons of Search Icon on Search Field
I think you should A/B test it, and post the results. I will bet on 2, but testing will show you the real answer.

My Chinese is little rusty, so i can't tell if you are emphasizing the important elements.

comment Most intuitive delete icon
I am using the first icon you suggested on an e-commerce site, and i have received multiple complaints from customers that they cannot find the delete button. I will try the hand-drawn version and see if people can find it easier.

comment Search filtering (all vs. selected areas)
I agree that the redesign is better. What is the likelihood that a user will use the advanced language search options?

comment Subdomains and usability: giving a user an address that immediately redirects them
@SirTapTap, DNS settings allow one ip address per subdomain. The probably have one server for that standard website (www) and a different for the secured part of the site. Routing a folder (www.site.com/folder) to a remote server is not very easy. I have personally used a subdomain to run portion of a site on a remotely hosted server with wordpress on it, while the rest of the site was on .NET, and was hosted in-house.

comment Subdomains and usability: giving a user an address that immediately redirects them
I doubt that they are using it for load balancing, since the redirect depends on the www (single machine), which is a single point of failure.

comment Icon for “More”, like more results
@raunak, how about a triangle facing right. Users are familiar with the convention from picture sliders.

comment Icon for “More”, like more results
Are you planning to use the icon at end of paragraphs of text, list of items, ... Different uses will require different icons.

comment Button placement while others ones are invisible/disabled
I would also suggest that hovering/clicking inactive buttons should display a tooltip showing why the button is inactive. If it is not clear why a button is disabled, users may get frustrated or confused.

comment Alternative control to drag and drop for assigning tasks to an individual?
How many advisers do they have? 20, 30, hundreds. There could be different options depending on the expected number of advisers.
