comment The Usability of “Lightbox UIs”
A lot of the round trip issues don't matter in modern frontends that are totally javascript-based. In those cases the "page" transition is done almost instantaneously by rendering templates in the browser while still maintaining history and browser controls.

comment What tools (ideally affordable ones) would folks recommend for creating a website wireframe?
-1 for all the negatives that a physical model bring. Inconsistent legibility, no long distance collaboration, poor versioning, difficult to iterate, slow to make minor changes on a built up wireframe, needs post processing with a scanner or camera, digital version consumes more data, waste of paper.

comment Which UI options are suitable for a mobile search result page?
Showing more information and fewer buttons is a lower "cost" for the user experience on mobile. Users aren't afraid to scroll and it's the easiest thing to do. Tapping buttons, on the other hand, is a decision, which can lead to low uptake since users may think the button will take them away from where they are. Not to mention button taps require more precision than scrolling.

comment Setting a default localization in a website
Default language is the language the website defaults to if no other language is detected or a translation file is missing. Preferred language is the language the user prefers to read in.

comment Setting a default localization in a website
I've updated my answer to include a solution for sites that don't have a registration process. My point was that you shouldn't present the option to the user unless they need it and only present it once.

comment Which UI options are suitable for a mobile search result page?
The only thing I don't agree with is not showing a "did you mean" spelling correction. It's very easy to mistype a search term on a mobile device and I often find myself just hitting submit even though I know one of the words is spelled incorrectly; Then I'll click the spelling suggestion if I don't get the results I expected. I'll go as far as saying this feature is even more important on mobile than desktop.

comment Positioning Enter/Backspace Keys on a Numpad
My point was that the numpad served a very specific purpose and suffers from a lot of legacy.

comment Positioning Enter/Backspace Keys on a Numpad
The numpad is borne out of very specific numeric entry requirements and should not be taken as gospel. After all, it still has the now-useless numlock key, and plenty of numerical keys pull double duty as function keys. Delete and decimal on the same key smacks of "just put it somewhere"-ism.

comment Why is 1366x768 considered by some to be the standard widescreen for modern laptops?
You absolutely can go responsive with graphing. Just look at some of the responsive dashboards on the web. themeforest.net/item/…
