comment What's the point in asking the user to do what an application can do itself?
@JonW: if it would be just Microsoft... PayPal restricts passwords to 20 characters. My bank website has a password length restriction and can contain only digits. Among the popular websites, most have a small length limit.

comment Why do sites with a single sign-on system redirect to a login screen?
@Kroehre: Ok, reading your comment and your answer, I understand that I misunderstood the original question. For me, it was not about OpenID and similar mechanisms, but about the logon inside the same website, i.e. an ordinary, internal logon.

revised Reason why disabling options without explanation is bad?
Improved formatting. Made a quote appearing as a quote; in the original version, it was presented as an original content written by the poster, which is misleading.

comment What is the purpose behind mouse acceleration?
@jokoon: the movement is still very accurate, since when you need to have a pixel-size precision, you just slow down. On a large screen (or, better, three monitors setup), without acceleration you will constantly run out of space for your mouse on your desktop.

comment When is it right to use “Not <user>?”
Giving your credentials to somebody else is a really, really bad idea in a first place, so no, you don't have to be logged in as JNF. If in an application, the only way to do something is to logon as somebody else, this is the most important issue to solve.
