+1 for UNDO. In general I think that this confirmation box is indicative of a technical shortcoming, if the operation can easily (and intuitively) be undone with no consequence then there is no reason to pester the user, however technically it is often much easier to implement a dialog box than to implement the easy and intuitive (or automatic) UNDO.

Quite reasonnable, however it still does not solve the issues of dead-links. Suppose for example that a blog article references this page, it's unlikely that the article will be updated, and so after a period of time the link will be dead.
