@K.. I'd argue with a statement that showing "no image + preloader" is better then showing "incomplete half-loaded image". I'll probably combine these two and go with "preloader + progressive image".

@alexeypegov It's popular only on social network sites FB, VK. Unexperienced users very often hit back button when they want to close lightbox, especially when overlay is dark. And of course this should be applied to image/content popups, not dialogs.
