I am a web developer based in London. I used to be a UX designer, but those days are long behind me.

comment How should we prepare users for a site overhaul?
@georgiosd - updating the UI of the old application is probably just going to duplicate the work that you do (I assume you are swapping out frontend as well as backend), and isn't likely to do much good for users besides (they just have to reorient themselves several times, as their heuristics for acting on recognizable UI components will get trashed every few weeks). I would suggest providing users a preview of the new app in the form of mockups and images initially (or static prototypes if possible), and make sure the new version's splash page shows where old, common task have been moved.

comment What is the best way to request individual characters from a password?
This is a great design, because it allows users who memorise passwords as paths across the keyboard (e.g. 'Qwertyuiop') to execute the password action without having to work out which letter falls at which position.

comment Print options dialog
How often will users modify each of these elements between prints? Will they tend to persist certain settings between jobs? Will certain settings rarely be touched? Is there a particular reason why you'd email from the print dialog (e.g. there's multiple views and you want email to send a fascimile / PDF of the postscript output)? Will users know which settings will be included under each heading in advance? How often will users be using this print dialog? Always the same user? Will they be always printing within the view, or will they be kicking off prints as part of a separate workflow?
