How to “force” users to upgrade their browser? @JonW Firefox does not "drink memory like they're no tomorrow". Despite the opinion of the internet echo-chamber, Firefox uses substantially less memory than all of the competition, and has for some time. Firefox does use a lot of memory for caching (i.e. speed), but it listens for low-memory events and drops caches as necessary to keep other programs running well. |

Is coffee a good excuse for a slow application start-up time? @MarjanVenema Why don't you just cache the data you use (and read-ahead in the background)? Then you'd have a fast start-up and fast queries. |

In what situations is a “barrier to entry” training requirement before use appropriate? This question reminds me of this rant by Linus Torvalds, with the quote: Quite frankly, even if
the choice of C were to do *nothing* but keep the C++ programmers out,
that in itself would be a huge reason to use C. Whether or not it's an appropriate requirement is hard to say though. |

What fields to drop from the registration form? I agree with the majority of this, but I think it should definitely just be email/password (not email or username). Usernames are basically only useful as display names, since email addresses are easier to remember for signing in (since you have the same one on every site). |

How much information should you ask for when users register? @VirtuosiMedia Having a "Display Name" gives you the same effect (hiding email) without the annoyance of needing to remember a user name or the ugliness of displaying a user name. |

Should we try and avoid fail states at all cost or allow users to recover from fail states? +1 To addition to these of a roll-over that indicates why the button is disabled. It's extremely annoying when buttons are disabled as you can't figure out why. |

Why don't users want to see adverts relating to products/services they might be interested in? @Anonymous- I've yet to see a book with ads it (besides maybe product placement?). Ad blockers have got pretty good on the internet, although the most annoying ads can't be blocked (entire websites that exist just to lie to users). |

How do we stop users overpaying in financial web forms? Yes, but what about it isn't proper UI? How would you fix it? This is a rant, not an answer. |

Disabling submit-button until the user has completed the form @Samiullah - I guess you could disable the button with JavaScript, but you might get an undesired flicker before it happens. |
