If you carefully choose the visualization of your information, this will not happen. If you would create a single screen, focusing on these applications, there's no way the user will be able to 'miss' it. If you would solely explain the purpose of the current screen with a non-bold text, prefer the button to cancel instead of close/continue, then the user isn't able to 'click on' without losing user data and aggravating the user. Even if they click cancel quickly the first time, they will be remembered again when they click continue again.

Ok, this sounds like there's another solution. How about scanning for usage of Winsock ports and inform the user that applications are using Winsock. To continue the installation, please quit the following programs: ... ? How about that? That would also solve it! :)

I agree with your response. However, when I've just installed the application and it informs me that I need to restart after I've installed it for it to work with 100% certainty, this feels like I don't have any option for the application to work then to reboot. Clicking not to reboot and continue and eventually not being able to work in a pleasing manner, does imply a situation where a previous action (the installation) can not be undone. Hence, my advise. :)
