comment Is there any research on the color schemes which work with different genders
The problem I've found whenever trying to research aspects of color psychology is dredging up the actual research on the interwebs. Whenever you think you've found something, there isn't a source credited or any credible reference to be found. With that said, here's all I could gather. At the very least it's an interesting read about Pink vs. Blue: brainpickings.org/index.php/2009/12/11/pink-and-blue-project

comment How to tell the user to click to edit data
+1 good point. Just note that hover alone will not solve all use cases as those using the website from a touch enabled device have no "hover". This may not be an issue for @ALS though depending on what his target audience is.

comment UX design document for Web platform Grid control
Are you referring to guidelines for any web-based data grid? Is there something you're looking for in particular?

comment Is it good UX that in Windows 7 & 8 the “windows” of the same application are automatically grouped into one button?
@lesderid While I did miss that, I definitely still think it deserves mentioning :)

There's another "workaround" which doesn't combine the buttons and also doesn't hide the window labels. You just need to go to Taskbar properties in Windows 7+, find the "Taskbar buttons" drop down and select "Never combine".

I think that's what chester was referring to in his question when he mentioned there is a general rule of thumb for waiting for content. This is the only applicable rule I've been able to find though.
