comment Deliberately annoying users to discourage certain behaviour. Is this a bad idea?
It always depends on who the users will be. E.g if the software is a mail server and the user of the administration interface is an administrator then security measures should be enforced on the users. Because if not then all the end users will complain pretty soon because the server got hacked and their email stolen. (e.g. because the admin password was very weak.) But I agree with you on consumer products and software for general usage.

comment Designing an app for iPad / iPhone retina display
Here is a PDF with some useful information about what you have to think about regarding images etc.: f.cl.ly/items/012n0O023v2S2N1m3Q1t/… (It is more a technical document than a UX document.)

comment Are there any studies which investigate the usage of Caps-Lock?
The 'Alt Gr' is for third characters printed on the keyboard as well. Those specific keys are for 4 different characters/symbols.

@cornbreadninja I just showed you I need caps lock because there are some letters I can not press without it. Like uppercase umlauts.

comment How to indicate the word “interesting” with an icon?
Why do you want to stay away from a star, heart etc.?

comment Why at some web are pages always from 1,2,3 … for newest messages?
Then you could have the "problem" that the start page has just one message because a new page has just been started. For a first time user it could not be easily clear that there are 912 other pages with content. But when he/she sees already a list of e.g. 10 messages it is clear that there could be more.
