comment Mail icon, is the envelope icon dead?
@SimonWhite: there are still tons of applications, even on Macs, that only save when specifically requested, and many applications where saving every 2 seconds is not an ideal behavior. Many web apps also still require saving, except it's called apply, update, or post. Auto-saving apps like google docs are a slim minority. Additionally if you've never used MS applications in your life you are clearly a corner case of users and so your personal experience does not negate the ubiquity of the floppy disk icon.

comment Mail icon, is the envelope icon dead?
I would not expect that button to send an email. I would expect some email related function, but not to send it.

comment Why aren't keyboards' home and top rows aligned nicely?
I think more people have 104 key keyboards than keyboards like what you drew.

comment Why do web sites display dates in an inaccurate representation e.g. “a year ago”?
I think rounding up to 2 years is worse and not helpful.

comment Why do drawing applications use handles to connect lines to shapes?
It's not simpler, because the handles have to be restricted to the shape anyway. The handles are there because where a line intersects can convey meaning.

comment What's a good control for allowing a user to define colours for numeric ranges?
How important is it they pick their own as opposed to having several options to choose from?

comment Can someone who is colour blind pursue a career in UX?
@IgorAsselbergs: except for very informal settings, color is not white vs black but red vs green vs blue, etc, specifically your visions perception of varying wavelengths of light, which is just a portion of what the pixels display. You can change a given UI to be completely monochrome, eliminating all color, without too much trouble.

comment Does the average user understand the median?
@AthomSfere: sadly, there are plenty of '2nd or 3rd grade' topics plenty of adults struggle with. Things mathematical are especially in that group.
