comment Is an aria-label necessary on icon fonts with additional context?
@JeromeR - screenreaders ignore icon fonts, as they don't contain meaningful text or alternate text. So in another example, where we use icon fonts for social icons, we add the aria-label explicitly - aria-label="Share on facebook"

comment Are screenreader users aware of the keyboard controls with jQuery UI's datepicker?
@DA01 - the datepicker does not have very good accessibility, but before overriding the keyboard controls I wanted to know if screenreader users were familiar with these controls (and I'm betting they are not)

comment Required fields
I read this research and found it lacking in substance. One thing they failed to test was form conversion and the impacts of required, optional, required & optional.

I would argue that if your form needs a legend, then it isn't very user friendly. I think the asterisk is a poor affordance easily looked over.

While I think there is some correlation, your sources above are speaking to page load performance, which is different than OP's question on interaction response times.

comment Reason behind placement of email opt in/TOC's at bottom of form?
@TimFitzGerald - very interesting theory, which I'm likely to believe given that we have a lot of holdovers that are like that as we've moved digital.

comment Accessibility with aria-live and referencing other parts of a page
great approach. It doesn't specifically work for my scenario which I solved here: ux.stackexchange.com/questions/72271/… but the focus approach helps me with another scenario. Thanks!
