comment What would a “reset to factory settings” term be for a digital app?
I find it interesting that in the example of the followup message that it still says "factory-default values". Was this for a digital app or boxed software? Perhaps this is still an appropriate term to use.

comment Will I confuse users by making my whole site HTTPS?
One situation that may result in confusion: some wi-fi hotspots that redirect the user to an "I Agree" page or similar login page may not redirect if the user's home page is an https site. At the library I worked at, we had loads of users who had google.com as their homepage on their laptops and once that site was switched to https only, our library's "I Agree" page wouldn't appear for them and so they couldn't get on the library internet until they tried an http site (which understandably never occurred to them). Not sure if IT ever fixed that. It may be a niche concern, but is a concern.

comment Should I capture exceptions and present a nice error page to hackers?
The answer you're going to get here is probably going to be centered around user experience, probably with the assumption that a newbie might wind up getting accidentally identified as a hacker. If you're wanting an answer from a security perspective and are solely concerned with the hacker's behavior, this question might be a better fit on Security Stack Exchange.

comment headings as links
@MarjanVenema it's not so bad for writing quick comments (I'm writing this one on my iPhone). You're right though that any lengthy contribution pretty much requires a keyboard, but some users use an iPad with a keyboard attachment or a Windows Surface computer. When it's like that, they are basically laptops with a touch screen rather than a mouse.

@MarjanVenema, while it's true that you can discover the links by "waving the mouse about", that's not something that can be done on touch devices without a mouse. Since users don't randomly tap to see if something is a tappable area, the only clue they have is the appearance.

Given that the original poster is looking for a specific English phrase to use, this question would probably get a better answer at English Language & Usage Stack Exchange.

comment Should image overlays have a close button?
Elaborating on your mobile comments, sometimes the image overlay is so large that on a small device, there is no room to "tap outside". This can especially be a problem on some of the smaller smartphones.
