comment Conducting user testings when end-users are very specified group in another country
I'd like to second the recommendation of the Remote Research book; the corresponding blog (remoteresear.ch) is also excellent. Both are well-suited to precisely this problem.

comment Is there a better way than zebra stripes
Zebra striping has been adopted as a standard because it works well generally; that is, for almost any kind of data table. There are certainly lots of ways to make data tables even better, but those will be specific to what the data actually is and what it will be used for.

comment What is this type of navigation is called?
A scope bar implies that the options are different scopes on a single data set. I expect that Work and Play could be two scopes on one set of data, but Profile, Notebook, and especially the Twitter icon seem to be unrelated.

Are you looking for the name of the navigation style (which is a user mode)? Or for the specific piece of UI (which is a bunch of pixels)?

comment engaging users in freemium services
One middle ground is to offer alternative ways to "pay" for premium features. For example: Trello gives you a free month of premium features for every new user you invite to the site. Or for a collaborative system like a wiki, you could give people access to premium in exchange for contributing quality content. Both of these are susceptible to gaming, though.

comment What is the best phrasing for “starting price” of a product on ecommerce site?
It depends on your definition of "best". But if your goal is to maximize conversion, @alanvitek's deferral to Amazon's relentless A/B testing seems like the right call. (But you shouldn't be afraid to test in your own product's context as well.)

Note that the "free trial" option is a way of showing the user potential value, but in that case you're making them figure out where that value is rather than doing the work to teach them.
