comment How to handle drag-and-drop when the user can't see the target
Interesting idea, I'll have to run it by the guys using it. It would only expand in the vertical direction, it should remain one week wide no matter what.

You still need a target date. (And there's no time involved--jobs are scheduled for a day, not for a time during the day. This is to ensure there isn't more work on a day than labor to do that work.)

Most of the time a failed drop doesn't mean there's no option. They have been dragging things around for several weeks now before they got stuck. You have given me an idea, though--there's already a pop-up menu, I think I'll add "Move to <date>" where <date> is the first available.

@mussdroid The problem was there was no way to get a valid drop target on screen.

comment Colored circles to signify status - a violation of accessibility guidelines?
@CodesInChaos Ok, 9% overall vs 20% of a population that's highly male shifted doesn't mean anything.

.9%?? A former employer tested all factory floor employees because there were two jobs that were simple enough but could only be performed by those with proper color vision (The test results went into their file so the supervisors could quickly check if the person could fill in on those two jobs if the regular people were out.) 20% failed the test.

comment What are some compelling reasons to disallow spaces in usernames?
The fix for sequential spaces is easy--collapse extras. I don't really think Jason Bourne should be distinct from Jason Bourne--that's just asking for confusion.

comment Why should text be non-selectable?
@O.R.Mapper With unstable sites I've been known to do that with large chunks of text but those normally aren't copy-protected. It's usually either e-mail or password that's protected.

@O.R.Mapper If you simply block ^c they can't type it once and then copy it to the other field. They still could type it in Notepad or the like and copy it into both but I doubt people will normally bother with that. ^v without a previous ^c probably means they copied it out of a file elsewhere--which has a very high probability of being correct.

comment Should multiple user accounts be allowed to use the same email address?
And what if two accounts legitimately have the same e-mail? I manage my wife's frequent flier accounts, the addresses are set to my e-mail.

comment Why do idle elevators close the doors?
@DanielCook And I've encountered multiple two-elevator systems that send one to the top and one to the bottom when idle.

comment Has an optional “browser upgrade” message ever worked?
Keep in mind that the people who are hitting your old-browser detector are likely in a situation where upgrading the browser is not an option.
