comment How detailed should a text alternative version of an image be?
If this is indeed an image embedded on html page, then the img tag should have the longdesc attribute pointing to a full page to describe the image in full. The alt text is supposed to be a small summary of the image as it is displayed See: webaim.org/techniques/images/longdesc This has been dropped in HTML5 though, so it is more appropriate to have a link under the image explaining that it is the full description (if it is not already the page it is embedded on)

comment Preventing a user from pasting from the clipboard into a mandatory form field
I really like the idea, and would love to see some test results from it, but my gut agrees with @msw and ButtleButkus

comment Removing placeholder text on focus
Sure is a lot of speculation in this thread. Can someone post an answer with user research applied?

comment Why do you need to keep users engaged through your site?
thanks for the input. I had totally forgotten about the long lost archaic art of email server validation. Thanks for the reminder :)

Exactly what I kept stressing to them. My original suggestion to them was to make the form non-mandatory and/or offer some sort of other incentive (besides pretending the white paper was incentive enough). In order to get good, quality, leads, you need to make a reasonable offer. I finally sold them on allowing the white paper to be downloaded "free" and then offering to "unlock" other white papers after filling out the form. Additionally, none of the form fields are required.

@DA01 to get people to download the white paper and generate "good" sales leads. My responsibility is to ensure that the customer experience remains as good as possible obviously.

"Also...wouldn't it be great if even just once in a while management used 'hard evidence'" .....in our dreams! Thanks for the response :)

comment confirm email or email verification later?
@Charles, as you keep missing from @blunders point, it is completely easy to parse a "confirmation url" from an email sent to a bot's email address and fake viewing the page to confirm said account (even if you have a button on said page, etc). Just as bots can learn capcha, bots can be trained to do everything else as well. There's too much money in spam :P
