@MarjanVenema the blur event is what the browser raises when a user moves focus (via clicking, tabbing, etc) away from an element on the web page. a blur handler is a javascript function which responds to the event. jqfundamentals is a good learning source.

I'm not entirely sure the second example is technically possible without hacking into the source of the autocomplete, but thank you.

What about if the user were to type "Ban" (which does not match any values) and then blur away from the box? This is also a situation of free text where I'd want to warn the user.
