Mouse scroll wheel should target focus or hover? deleted 15 characters in body |

Mouse scroll wheel should target focus or hover? @lain Galloway thx for your comment! Well by observing people working on computers (e.g. my parents), even if the UI always hints which window is in focus (e.g. it is the only one that has alpha=1), they don't necessarily get it and they tend to not understand why they sometimes have to click to have a particular window in focus. I think that users are not expecting a reaction from a textbox containing the caret but rather that users are expecting every window they see to be directly in focus. |

How to make icons representing users differentiable when users do not have the same role/importance @Anko, I'm really willing to get better in using StackExchange websites, but I still think it is not off-topic. My question is not on a specific icon, but rather on how to manage a collection of icons that should be visually very near and at the same time have a different meaning. I'm not asking you to create an icon (please don't) but on how you would recommend me to differentiate them. anyway thx for the link :) |

Alert window, navigating to the right button I come back to you, cos the SPACE solution does not work (ex in photoshop when closing a picture, a dialog asks whether you want to save (enter), cancel (esc) or Don't save (NOT space). BUT ! As PeterL hinted, option+first letter works ;) !! |

Preventing a user from pasting from the clipboard into a mandatory form field +1 for the link, although i do not agree with his num 5. I would rather go with a ` -- select country -- `. |

Alert window, navigating to the right button @Padrig thx for info ! Strange that pressing ENTER still triggers the default button, even if not focused. Anyway, very useful !! |

Alert window, navigating to the right button Woow ! first thanks for for the tips, that will save me hours :) ! At first, I wouldn't say it is more user-friendly as the discoverability is low (not obvious at all, in particular the space bar), but your argument about the number of buttons make it clear why. This also make sense on NOT having any dialog in a website that has more than 2 to 3 buttons. Always try to keep it simple for the user ! |
