comment Password field in cleartext
I recommend defaulting to a masked field, but having a "reveal password" checkbox close by. This way the user can judge if they're in a secure enough environment to display an unmasked password.

comment Taking input from user on the homepage
While @JimmyBreck-McKye asked some pertinent questions required to answer this question fully, at first glance, you may want to think about changing the 'continue' button to be more descriptive of the action the user is taking e.g. 'Subscribe'. This may not prevent all mistaken sign-up attempts, but it's a start.

Can you add more detail to your question? Why do you think it'll be distracting? Can you provide a mockup?

comment Buttons replacing a link for a consistent style
Per your title, I wouldn't suggest trying to aim for a consistent style, but a consistent user interface. They may or may not be the same thing.

comment How to indicate container is scrollable without scroll bars
Wouldn't removing scroll bars also qualify as going "against the plaform"?

Are you saying fading the bottom edge isn't possible? That's nuts.

comment Why do users erase all the password when they hit one wrong key, instead of just the last wrong character?
Perhaps this could lead to a new UI pattern for deleting the entire password when the user presses the delete key once? As it stands now it would be disorientating, but as a pattern we could get use to, it could prove useful.

+1 for "kinetic memorization". Nice phrase.

comment Traffic light, no more shapes?
Fun fact: green and red are easily confused when you have various types of colour blindness, so the green also contains blue light, making it easier to discern!

Forrst, Dribbble are two good resources. Unfortuately, you need to be invited/voted-in to both. Reddit/r/design can also be of use for design critique (sign-up required).

comment Why does Apple use images of text for headers?
It is wrong. Unless the text is found inside a content image, generally speaking using images to display the typeface you want is not the right way to go, especially with improved support for @font-faces. That said, if you must use images, an alt attribute still isn't going to cut it - I recommend the Phark method, but then this isn't stackoverflow :)

comment Why do sites with a single sign-on system redirect to a login screen?
Can you suggest an alternative? (Real question, not being snarky.)
