I create things that go with the flow of the person using them.
I like making interactive communication tools for education and start-ups. Being it websites, group communication methods, interactive installations or spaces. Using php/MySQL, feed/email, virtual environments, partners and some love.

How can I keep up-to-date with the latest thinking about designing complex, rich applications? Most of these are filled with "the 20 best lightboxes" kind-of-posts. Not really about complex web design I would say. (Although some posts are quite insightful in that, these are not the best examples.) |

Is ReCaptcha a poor anti-spam mechanism? Maybe you can rephrase your question title a bit? As right now your actual question ("What are your best anti-spam, UX-friendly anti-spam measures?") and its answers are quite different from the title. |

Have I missed anything from my list of web form best practices? Google has posted a blogpost about internationalization where they advice to always place labels on top of the input fields, instead of left to it. |

What are the best practices for background images? Using the Google Page Speed extension for Firebug you can check your page. After analysis I will show a red Optimize images which points to optimized versions of the images. Results differ from a sadly 5% to a huge 95% which is not uncommon. |

How big should an image be on a computer for you to clearly see someone's face? There is more situations in which a Google+ profile image pops up. They go as small as 48x48 and even 24x24. You can elaborate a bit more on those cases to improve your answer. |

Tabbed browsing. Why close the application on closing the last tab? Hi @juanka, welcome here! I see you're mostly stating you have the same experience. The expectation here is that you try to explain in your answer why such a behavior is found in browsers. |

Have I missed anything from my list of web form best practices? Good ones! I like the more generic principles as opposed to the very specific check marks. See also my answer about that point. |

Have I missed anything from my list of web form best practices? @Treffynnon, thanks, and welcome here. It could be good to add those context variables (low budget and contact-us forms) to your question, to give a better understanding to readers. |

Have I missed anything from my list of web form best practices? I wouldn't want to make this a wiki, as I don't agree this should be a list of best practices. See my answer below. |

Discrete priority values instead of continuous ones in bug tracking tools I don't think people submitting the bug should be the ones deciding on a bugs priority at all. At least not in a ideal situation. |

Hyperlink the verb or the noun? Very good way of looking at the problem! Always look at what it is you want to emphasize. |

Should I trim spaces in passwords? If you trim spaces (at beginning and end) when people sign up and when they sign in, nobody will notice. |

Should I trim spaces in passwords? @RoboShop spaces in passwords make them more secure as it will take a lot more time to crack them. |

Auto focus on the first form field; done right? True that this does the technical part right, not the user experience in my view. That is left to the current browsers default (which has not seen that much design iterations as it isn't used that much yet). I'm looking for all the user experience details one should take into account. |

How to combine search results from multiple sources onto the same results page Ah, sorry @Phil for misquoting / misunderstanding you. Good point about showing some categories anyway. We also had that with one main category - but that was partly also a technical limitation :) |
