comment Touchscreens in car consoles
+1 In a car, the driver's eyes need to be on the road. A million times this; it's exactly why texting while driving has been made illegal in many places.

comment Verifying that a user acknowledges and understands a given message without adding excess inconvenience
@Kevin For things that are really in a rare situation, sure, but since the OP mentioned it could be something done more frequently I'd be sure to focus that it'd only be advisable for something truly uncommon. @Mervin Easy, yes, but does ticking a box really convey more information than already having to type in a specific number compared to the extra effort required by the user? As far as 'accidentally formatting my data goes', I guess that depends on your user base -- I've managed to avoid nuking my drive all these years when rm -Rf doesn't come with a confirmation

I have to type and reconfirm my number, AND click a checkbox? This would quickly get on my nerves.

I think this answer is best summarized as Because only programmers start counting at 0, and not only programmers use text editors.

comment Deliberately annoying users to discourage certain behaviour. Is this a bad idea?
+1 Annoying user experiences are broken user experiences. @PhonicUK If piracy isn't a concern, perhaps it's not a good idea to list it as a reason, and maybe the users of your software want this kind of behaviour?

comment Why don't ATMs give you cash before your card?
Behind this 100%, here where I live in the States, the two ATMs I go to (only a few miles apart) actually do them different ways, and I constantly fear forgetting my card because I never remember which one gives it back to me first.
