Currently building a web app. I'm at SO/SE sites with the goal of learning something new every day.

Things I like/use include: camelCase, OOP, HTML(5), CSS(3), PHP(5), (My)SQL, PDO, xdebug, APC, XHPRof, Javascript, jQuery + jQuery UI, JSON, redis, Git, PHPUnit, node.js, Twitter Boostrap, Modernizr, Common sense

Things I dislike/don't use include: under_scores, XML, spaghetti code, gotos, architecture astronauts, etc

I also used to do: VB6, VB.NET, C/C++, x86 Assembly, Motorola 68K Assembly; but I forgot most of it since I haven't touched them in years.

Like my stuff? A couple of mBTCs are always welcome: 19xQFJabE9ga4kjnKTV94JTirnjy9TKNN9

@André ah, right, I see what you mean, good point.

Yeah, as I mentioned below I'm going for a unzooming in advance implementation and as you pointed out you were first, so I stand corrected :)

@GildasFrémont well this is embarrasing.. ahem, I'm going to switch the accepted answer in this case, I hope it's okay for both of you guys. Rest assured both of the answers helped me in any case!

Thanks, just wanted to let you know this answer helped me aswell, you have my upvote; I would accept it too if I could. In the end I realize the question was rather open ended, so it ended up being a matter of what worked best for my app. But I'm sure the answer will do good aswell for others.

I'm going to go with an implementation similar to unzooming the map to display upfront the destination, so I'll mark this answer as accepted. Thanks! (Although I would certainly avoid using pulsating animations)

@André read the penultimate paragraph ;)

comment How can I improve this simple form?
Wouldn't it make more sense to include a dropdown menu where descending is selected by default?

Why doesn't this have hundreds of upvotes is totally beyond me :)

comment Should I let my users chose between multiple themes?
I agree. Several skins not only makes a site harder to maintain, but potentially less memorable. There's a reason why all MacBook Pros look the same for example.

comment What is the best way to ask for a specific amount?
That's true, but it does provide a nice feedback. As long as you can actually type in the number, and as far as I can see you can with this plugin, it's an alternative to a plain boring text box, wherever it fits.

It's interesting though. Indeed a bit obscure in that it is not obvious for the user, but it can serve as an alternative input method e.g. provided that there's no space for a full blown slider.

This is a neat idea actually. I was kinda looking for a global approach but I will definitively think of these knobs where I see fit in the interface.
