Well, I can imagine only two solutions with variants: rearrange the whole table without hidding elements or hide elements. Maybe there are more options.

Maybe you should change the position of columns headers, from horizonta to vertical, like on this example from Brad Frost pattern gallery: css-tricks.com/examples/ResponsiveTables/responsive.php You won't hide any columns or force user to scroll.

comment Buttons in the “tab area” of a page control
I suppose that some users might wonder if buttons are related to the actually open tab or maybe they're independent from of the tabs. In other words if buttons are associated with the content displaying in the open tab, or maybe there is no connection between open tab and button action. I might be wrong, but this is my first thought.

comment Displaying filters in the multiple query search engine
Generally I agree, but concept of a search engine, where user could submit parameters as queries might be difficult to comprehend for some users. This conversation was very helpful cause I don't want any more filters to be modified by search queries. Changes I'm going to make: search box queries don't modify drop downs; users won't be able to type date into search box - to many formats to retrieve. I want to make some fast paper prototyping user tests today.

comment Displaying filters in the multiple query search engine
great, thanks ;) It's a nice step to reduce elements on this interface, but point of confusion you were pointing out is still a problem. Deleting or changing query in search box would update drop down, but changing the date via drop down won't update search box (unless user deletes date completely it will cause deleting the date from the search box). Plus in search box user could type another filters, which are not represented in drop downs, how to show to him that these filters are applied?
