comment How should I call the 'moving target' problem?
'annoying' ..... I especially hate it when the moving target places a different action in the way and you are forced to undo their deed

Hi Tony, excellent question. Can I suggest editing the title to get more attention. I don't think it quite captures the problem faced. That this is a challenge to an often ingrained way of thinking (in rigid and simply defined hierarchies). Many managers and clients struggle a lot with this.

comment How to find a color scheme that's also useful when printed in black and white?
True, I have used this one: colorbrewer2.org/… However if you select photocopy, printer, and colour blind check-boxes no options are given. Perhaps that is saying you need to choose the priorities. :)

comment After how many years does a Web Interface Design Book become outdated?
If they are talking about today, they are already outdated :) But seriously, good design lasts. However that doesn't stop the details, the context and our understanding from changing. This is a constant, never ending process.

Sounds like the 'bad user' has presented some valuable design opportunities.

@LisaTweedie I've added another source at the end of my answer. I believe it could have some nice insights into the mindset of facebook's designers. It even talks about the effect of previous design changes. However it doesn't have data about the effect of timeline directly.
