Chris.. i found this answer fairly unreadable. But I think you have some good points in there. Would you consider editing it into plain english... I did start to have a go but then was worried that I was changing your meaning. Cheers.

Excellent point... it is very easy to badly design a search box.

I disagree Matthew... clearly Google disagree with you too as they have done the tests (see first answer).

Can you show an example of one of your low quality pictures? I think we may all be a much better place to judge then.

comment Can I get some inspiration on displaying visualization for a tabular data in addition to displaying it in a table?
Ok thanks for updating... I might have a go at coming up with something when I get a minute (; I love treemaps... go to newsmap.jp for some good UX to inspire you.

In order to come up with a better design we need to understand a little more about the tasks users will want to do on the display... what is it being used for? What are the key tasks? They are critical to identifying the right representation.

Well hope it was worth the wait... I will be awarding you 200 points in 24 hours... as that seems to be the only way to sort out this situation!

Well i was interested in both. Although I agree I have framed the descriptive content of the question more about the timeline itself. The "forcing" part of it just implied to me that they were really keen for us to make the shift and it took me a while to understand why.
