This seems like a very subjective question. What is the purpose of your app? Is it social, work-related, possibly something people want to use anonymously? Those factors would influence which picture people want to use.

Yes, I understand. My point is that since it doesn't give the users any benefit to make the selection, then making the selection has no purpose. Does that make sense?
