ajax vs button(action) submission for configuration/option settings If you're after a high level view from the "World of UX" then your question may be slightly too broad. |

Replicated bars and menus consistency Worth noting that Google constantly runs experiments and tests, so this may simply be one of those. |

How much value is there in using “industry standard” design elements? Hi Alex, a lot of these notes seem like basic branding advice - I'm looking for something that specifically addresses the effect of borrowing existing brand associations. |

How much value is there in using “industry standard” design elements? @DA01 It wasn't intended to be specifically about either. I'm talking about design patterns in the holistic sense. |

Get results over time without JavaScript Is there any reason you need to progressively reveal results rather than just displaying them all at once? |

Is it good to hide url bar from Mobile websites? Isn't this only true for iPhone? Android versions (at least the later ones) auto-hide the location bar. |

Designing for dynamic layout seen in ERP/ complex configurable systems I'm not quite seeing what the UX question is here. A number of things you are asking are very much offtopic. Can you be more specific with your question, and make it more directly related to UX? |

How much value is there in using “industry standard” design elements? @icc97 Not really. The method of acquiring the design patterns isn't really relevant here (in addition it's fairly unlikely that major industry players are buying themes off the rack) - rather, I'm asking whether it's appropriate to borrow design patterns from other industry players in the first place. |

A/B testing a site with low traffic Don't worry, I won't. It's too useful! |

What is the rationale behind not providing Dashboard/Home screen landscape mode? This is a guess, and only a guess mind you - it may not be simple to rearrange the icons on a homescreen to fit in landscape orientation. Android has widgets and other items which may not fit. I know ICS for tablets simply resizes the entire layout and leaves large bars on the sides - presumably for this reason. |

How much value is there in using “industry standard” design elements? @DA01 Well, that would be the next step (identifying them). I'm more interested in whether it's a good idea to try. |

Alternative to color code in table cell In fact, would it be possible to give a list of the potential statuses if the list isn't too long? |

Is “chars” a universally understandable abbreviation for “characters”? Why are you limiting text? Can you give us more context? On its own, this seems like a perfect example of where having a full word rather than an abbreviation helps reduce ambiguity and improves the experience. |

Can a mobile application be made using a totally flat design? Can you substantiate this a bit more? I'm fairly sure that removing affordances is not a smart idea for interfaces, which is what the flat style advocates. I know it's fashionable to hate on skeuomorphism, but that doesn't mean that buttons shouldn't look like buttons. |

What would be a nice way to distinguish a user's items from other users' items? Do you have anything else to support the idea that logged-in users are usually light orange? I can't think of any examples of that. |

Should we use a sound/jingle when users arrive on our site or open our app? Do you have any reason for suggesting not to do it other than your personal experience? The OP is looking for objective arguments rather than subjective ones. |

Should every website have a landing page? @Ashwin: Landing page is not a synonym for "explanatory page". It is any page that your visitors arrive on. |

rectangles Vs rounded corners of text fields on mobile I associate rounded rectangles with search and square with form fields, but that's just personal experience. |
