comment Why should we ask the password twice during registration?
@LeeKowalkowski The main idea of this post is to hide or show the password. WordPress chose to show the password and user does not have to input masked (blind) password twice - signup.wordpress.com/signup

I agree that the email is the most important part of user registration. But this is the theme for other topic. And the main idea of this thread is about masking or unmasking the password.

@AndreyBotalov: There are about (approx.) 10% of users under NAT and about (approx.) 10% of these users could exceed 10 times login limit. If they will exceed the limit, then these users will simply restore the password. Because of this (approx.) 1% of users you are trying to force all 100% to invent long and complicated passwords. IMHO it is not useful for users.

+1, thank you for description of the user testing. Could you tell (if it is not a secret) what else confused users except placeholders? Or what other improvements you made after user testing? It is very interesting because users surprise me a lot sometimes :)

+1, I agree, that in most cases placeholder not needed at all, label is enough and input should be blank (without placeholder text). But there are situations when you are limited in space (like login forms) and placeholder solve this limitation. By the way, what was the average age of tested users?

comment Why do most dashboards use capital words?
@BartGijssens IF ALL WORDS WILL BE UPPERCASED THAN IT WILL MORE PROMINENT THAN USER USED TO READ. BUT IT IS HARD TO READ FOR USER. IMAGINE IF ALL THE WORDS IN THE BOOKS WILL BE UPPERCASED. Natural case of letters is easier to read.

+1 I completely agree that using placeholder in most cases is the bad practice. But there are some cases when using placeholder is good solution. Example: login form in the topbar of the site. There are no extra space for labels and it is better to use placeholders in this case.
