Designing a “create” UI for a complex “object” in a system why not a hybrid? Start with an import of everything the admin does know, including the minimum data required to create that person object, and then a web interface it add to and modify what was imported. Ideally you would test your users in some way, even within admin there is a wide range of skill sets and mental models. |

How do I simplify my complex form? wizard vs. scrolling what do you think of having the groups (within their sections) in an accordion control that only allows one group to be visible at a time? |

How do I simplify my complex form? wizard vs. scrolling Thanks! It actually is not a survey, but instead something that takes travel information for a trip the user has won. So I have a captive audience, they have to give all the info to go on the trip. |

Why do Microwave oven UIs fail? @yisela thanks, but I don't have any studies to cite and back up my opinion, so I simply added to this answer which talks to my point at the beginning ;-) |

Why do Microwave oven UIs fail? The reason the microwave UI is not intuitive is because the marketing push with microwaves is all the "great" features is places at your fingertips. Back in "the day", when microwaves were new and exciting (and had dials - in the US) the entire reason for buying one was convenience. They were supposed to revolutionize the kitchen and free up the overworked housewife... etc. That snazzy digital interface is designed to demonstrate all its "high-tech" features and sell the machine, not help you use it. |

How to display complex, interactive grid? If I read this right, you are talking about 2 checkboxes in each cell (edit and view). I feel like that will be just as visually cluttered as the dropdowns. Unfortunately, I cannot combine pages as one of the requirements is for the business user to see them all in one place. |
