Hi, I'm a medical student and I enjoy programming in my spare time. I'm particularly interested in Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF), Expression Blend and modern user interface (UI) design.
My current project is a medical records program which I hope one day will be a viable commercial package.

What's the best way to highlight a Required field on a web form before submission? Using bold labels can also cause problems. |

Combining all the address fields into one? I agree, a watermark would be very helpful in this situation. |

Inline editing controls alignment I hadn't thought to put the command buttons to the left of the string items. Most UIs I've come across put them to the right of the item to be edited. Thanks! |

Moving items between tabs No, this is an uncommon task. It would only be performed if the item was created under the wrong category/tab. Each item will clearly belong to a particular category. +1 I'll need to think of some way to make it clear that the tab headers are the drop targets. |

Moving items between tabs Thanks for your response and encouragement. +1 Your absolutely right, I had thought about right clicking and will implement it. I was also leaning towards drag and drop. Do you have any suggestions about how to make the drag drop function obvious to the user? |

Moving items between tabs @DA01 The purpose of the 3 tabs (History, Exam, Plan) is to group items which are similar. The tabs are also sequential. A doctor will first take a history, then perform an exam and form a plan. Moving items would be rare, but I feel I should allow for it because a user may accidentally create a template item under the wrong category. In place of a tab control, what would you suggest? |

Adding appointments to a calendar: soft modal vs modal dialog If I were to implement both, do you think the toolbar button should open a new page (like Google) or a dialog (like Outlook)? |
