“Modernizing” legacy applications and legacy users @MobyD I'm sure I read something by Machiavelli about that. |

Is implementing dark patterns unethical? "The problem with this question is that all of UX is a psychological trick to make the applications and sites people use as smooth and easy as possible." Yep. There may be many folks out there who do all that work because they are altruistic, but at the end of the day there is a $ whether we like it or not. |

Is task-based the same as user-centric? You could do worse than scan Welie's thesis: welie.com/papers/Welie-PhD-thesis.pdf It's a suprisingly readable dissertaion on task analysis and usability. |

3 column layout for a video player page? You might also review ojr.org/ojr/stories/070312ruel which includes studies by Nielsen. And Tom Roberts has a nice article on white space: idratherbewriting.com/2007/07/09/white-space-in-web-design. Findings generally come out across all these articles the same way - it improves comprehension, is easier on the eye, focuses attention, etc. |

Why Do Long, Ugly Sales Pages Convert? "the more you write, the more is can fool the reader into thinking that the product is authentic" Whoa. No. I don't believe this is true. Any research to back up this claim? |
