In the digital world, skeuomorphism is designing an interface to look like its physical real-world counterpart.

Skeuomorphism is a design approach that attempts to imitate other real world elements. A skeuomorph is typically used to emphasize affordance (for example, designing a web page button to look like a real-world button affords 'pressing it'). A skeuomorph also may be deliberately employed as an aesthetic decision to make the new design comfortably old and familiar (nostalgic).
