I'm looking for examples for how to show data (not form inputs) with field name/field value on a form. Everything I find on CSS is always form INPUT fields. I'm looking for a css layout for form DATA.

I mean - for example - a profile of a user. Shows name, address, etc (values of fields). How best to lay out that display. – Caveatrob Apr 22 '11 at 13:05

What you are looking for is a "Design Pattern" for profiles. Design patterns are just thought out solutions to UX and UI problems.

Rather than post all the wonderful Design Pattern resources, I will link you to a wonderfully thorough list from smashing magazine. Just look for patterns dealing with profiles.

In this case teaching a man to fish may be better than giving a man fish. Pointing someone in the right direction and giving them the capacity to learn about a subject is just as important and just as appropriate as giving them the answer. When someone posted the question, "How many form fields are best for conversions?" - I posted 3 links to the subject and said read these. Not 4 (not the right answer because the subject is complex). – Chris Kluis Apr 26 '11 at 10:43
I'm all in favor of teaching people how to discover their own answers. However (imho), this Answer didn't do that - it's just a giant posting of links, with the only advice being "read them all until you find the answer" (assuming there even is an answer in the pile). Might as well Google it and start reading. In a similar vein, telling someone "that big ocean there has all the fish you need, just find a way to get them out" - isn't the same as actually teaching them how make a fishing pole or net, and use it... – John C Apr 26 '11 at 13:15
John, I agree with you that my answer is not the best. However, it was what I wanted to give. I did not have the time to pick out design patterns I thought he might need. But thats the beauty about this site. Everyone who can gives the answer they can and together we can create a clearer picture. – jonshariat Apr 26 '11 at 16:19
