We're a supermarket chain with more than 500 stores. The find stores function in our smartphone app (Android/iPhone) should have a button for finding stores near the user's current location. The button will have a text similar to "Find stores close to me"

Which icon should we use with the text on the button? The hair cross or the arrow? Why?

I wouldn't use hair cross, because its usually means "my location" but not "find". At least on android.

Arrow can be understood wrong, if you think, that it really shows the direction. Moreover its used often as "navigate" on android.

I would use something like "radar". http://www.iconfinder.com/icondetails/28364/128/find_locate_nearby_radar_icon http://www.iconfinder.com/icondetails/6727/128/nearby_radar_wifi_icon

Because it really means "scan everything around, show what is found"
