Is there any wiki for best usability practices?

In the ideal scenario it would have best practices categorized by web site topic/ web site audience/ specific shopping flow/ specific interface element function (e.g. best practices for breadcrumb navigation/ for footers/ for contact forms/ etc) and so on?

It appeared to me, maybe the keyphrase would be "wikis for usability patterns"? But as I am not a geek I am not quite sure about the meaning of "pattern" in this context. (I asked here: stackoverflow.com/questions/14094185/pattern-good-practice but they closed the question). – drabsv Dec 30 '12 at 20:22

I did take a look at usability pattern repositories but I am looking for something more comprehensive - a knowledge base, where you could look up best usability practices for specific site topics, for example: university web sites. Then you would be able to select a specific user task on the site - e.g. figuring out the admissions procedures and then you would be able to see a list of selected best practices for that purpose. In other words, UI pattern repositories list solutions only, whereas I am looking for repositories listing specific UI goals (problems), as well. – drabsv Jan 3 at 18:30

  • Quince - my favorite, a rich UX patterns (±90) explorer. The information about problem, solution, rationale, implementation, examples and sources is provided.
  • UI Patterns - a UX patterns (±60) explorer with information about problem, solution, rationale and examples, and UI design screen shots focusing on specific aspects of UI.
  • Elements of Design - a different type of web design showcase focusing on specific aspects of web design such as headings, footers, search boxes, buttons, and so on.
  • Pattern Tap - big collection that provides design inspiration to user interface (UI) designers.
  • Yahoo! Design Pattern Library - library, which shares user interface patterns with the web design and development community. For today, there're 59 UI patterns.

What are these? Why are you suggesting them? What do each of them provide? Just leaving a list of links with absolutely no context isn't really much help as an answer, it's just some links. This provides even less information than just doing a google search would do (where you'd at least get a description of the links). Can you expand your answer and say why you have suggested these items? – JonW♦ Jan 3 at 8:40
