I am building a car pool mobile application. The scenario is simple.

  • Person A has a car, and he is hoping to find people who travel in the same direction as he is on a certain journey.
  • So he registers his vehicle, and his journey.
  • With the journey he specifies the start time, end time, start location and end location.
  • Along with these parameters he also providers time and distance radius, so that he can choose to pick someone (or drop) close by to where he is starting from.
  • Or he can choose to provide that journey to anyone from the city. A bigger radius.

The same on the time. He may want to also look at providing the ride to anyone leaving within, lets say 30 mins, of his start time. This way he can get more people to get his ride on a search.

Special case is a cab may select 24 hours, and just a start location (his current location).

Now, when someone does a search and finds multiple rides, to choose between them, he will like to have some comparative details. For example, I wouldn't want to travel 1/2 way round town to start a ride with someone. I may want to look for someone closer to my start location.

So I need to show the following in my search results

  1. Space available in the vehicle (total and occupied space)
  2. What is the time difference between the ride and my preferred start (end) time
  3. What is the distance between my start location and the start location of the ride

I can sort/filter based on these parameters and help myself, to choose between rides.

Questions

  • How do I go about designing such a icon ?
  • I am thinking of a Milestone icon to show time,
  • or use the 4 corners of a listview item
  • What colors do I need to use for time and distance ?

You need to be more specific about your question, asking to redesign the app wont get any answers but you need to mention what is the challenge you are facing – Mervin Sep 9 '12 at 7:45
Edited the question with more details on my challenge. – Siddharth Sep 9 '12 at 9:01

@Siddharth: icons don't really help us this time: could you show us a flow diagram? It's something like a comic, explaining how this app would be used. I don't really understand, what do these kms and minutes mean. – Aadaam Sep 9 '12 at 21:34
Thanks. I have added the flow of the app. – Siddharth Sep 10 '12 at 9:41

This isn't a suitable question to post here. There is no User Experience problem that you want to solve, you're just asking us to totally redesign your application. The only question as far as I can see in your text is: "I have something really ugly that I have designed, but I need something more neat and clean. Please give me some ideas to find icons that I can use. Help me design this page. - This isn't a suitable question for this site I'm afraid. We can't design icons for you, or design your whole application, we can help with specific areas of it but can't do the whole thing for you. – JonW Sep 10 '12 at 9:44

It's difficult to tell what is being asked here. This question is ambiguous, vague, incomplete, overly broad, or rhetorical and cannot be reasonably answered in its current form. For help clarifying this question so that it can be reopened, see the FAQ.
