I want to conduct some remote usability studies (the people I need to test are in a different country and traveling is not possible at the moment) and I'm having trouble finding screen sharing software that I can use.

Here are my requirements:

  • Easy screen-sharing of users' screens: Many of my users are not experienced with computers so the easiest possible set up on their end is desired.

  • Cross-platform: I work on a Mac but my testers use both Windows and Mac, so cross platform compatibility is a must.

  • Low cost: I would prefer a one-time fee, but it seems that all screen-sharing products want to charge monthly or annually. I am willing to compromise on this if there are no alternatives.

Adobe's ConnectNow appears to do what I want but there's no way to install it on Mac OS Lion, which I'm running.

I also attempted to use Livelook but it also prompts to "get the latest version of Java," although I already have installed the latest version of Java on Lion.

Hi Patrick. I'm afraid that requests for recommendations (be it books, software or anything else) isn't a question StackExchange sites are designed to answer. Primarily because they aren't answerable and all answers left could be equally valid. See this stackexchange blog post for more information about these so-called 'shopping requests'. FogCreek's CoPilot comes to mind https://www.copilot.com/

It supports both Windows and Mac (Microsoft Windows® 2000 or later, or Mac OS® X 10.4 to 10.7).
