User Experience Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for user experience researchers and experts. It's 100% free, no registration required.

My background is not so much front end Ui web development, in order to progress my personal projects with a limited budget this will have to change.

I am looking to have a different looking front end than the common bootstrap style which is common lately.

I have a PSD template with some buttons/sliders/dropdowns etc. I am unsure how I can take this and break it down for use in my app.

Any guides/tips/help on this matter would be much appreciated.

Welcome to UX.SE! Unfortunately, we don't discuss Photoshop tutorials here. – dnbrv Apr 19 '12 at 23:58
We do welcome specific questions about the design process though. The whole PSD -> protype process is pretty major and not a good fit to a single question – Ben Brocka Apr 20 '12 at 2:18

Going from design to code is much harder than going from code to design (at least in my experience).

I'd suggest starting with a html/css framework (twitter bootstrap!) and then styling that pre-existing front end code in an attempt to match your psd.
